Job Description
The Children’s Council of Watauga County is hiring an assistant teacher for DUAL School. The Diverse Unified Appropriate Learning (D.U.A.L) School is a half-day preschool at The Children’s Council of Watauga County serving children and families from 8:30-12:30 Monday through Friday. The DUAL School Program prepares children ages 3 and 4 years old who speak English and children who are English Language Learners for kindergarten. Our school focuses on providing an intentional learning space that supports and encourages children’s home language and the acquisition of the English language. Our mission is to immerse children in a developmentally appropriate curriculum that involves hands on learning. A fundamental part of our program includes viewing children as capable and giving children open-ended opportunities to think, create, explore, and imagine. We believe that this is done through nurturing relationships and encouraging and support play and curiosity.

Education/Experience:
- Personal commitment to strength-based, family/ child-centered practice
- Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education preferred
- Experience in Early Care and Education settings preferred
- Demonstrates ability to interact with children in a developmentally appropriate manner as well as comfortably interacting with / support families.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and collaboration skills.

Substitute Program
Are you interested in working in child care while making it fit your schedule? Come by the Children’s Council to pick up/fill out an application packet. Application process includes criminal background check and fingerprints which is approximately $40. Must have High School diploma/GED and be at least 18 years old.
